The guided city walk will be organized on Wednesday, July 10th, 10:00-12:00, and starts at the historical Town Hall of Lier. It is organized for tournament participants, friends and family.
Many of the participants in the Belgian Championship will not be very familiar with the city of Lier. ‘Lierke Plezierke’ is truly a wonderful city to live, work and play chess, with a city center that is more than worth discovering. To prove this, we are organizing a guided tourist city walk on Wednesday, July 10. During a 2-hour tour (from 10 to 12 AM) through our beautiful city. The most important attractions will be covered: the picturesque beguinage, the unique Zimmer Tower, the prisoner’s gate, our beautiful St. Gummarus Church, the sheep’s head monument, the Grote Markt with town hall and belfry,… A city guide will be happy to tell you about the rich history of Lier, and of course his story will be spiced with numerous anecdotes and facts.
An optional boat trip with De Moedige Bootvissers is possible. In an old eel barge they will take you on our Binnennete for about an hour, for a trip full of hidden corners and surprising cityscapes. We conclude our city walk with a Liers Vlaaike and coffee in one of the cozy cafés that participate in our chess festival.
